Chips vs Cracks

Modern glass in vehicles is now tough compared previous. The average is now every seven years a driver will be faced with a cracked or damaged windscreen. Side and rear windows are made of toughened glass which shatters on impact, but windscreens, which are laminated means they don’t shatter. This is because they are built with a PVB (Poly Vinyl Butyral) layer which provides the strength to enable us to be able to fix small ships and cracks with our resin process.

Windscreens have been laminated now for nearly 30 years, and one will never shatter. It is this plastic layer that allows us to be able to repair rather than replace. This can save you a lot of money and time too. But if you do have a chip and leave it too long to be fixed, then it can become a crack. Chips can see your vehicle fail it’s MOT test, yet these repairs can be done quickly to allow that happening to you.

It is also good to keep in mind, that a cracked windscreen could be illegal, so you should get it replaced quickly and easily using our services, to ensure your vehicle is always on the right side of the law.

Windscreen hints and tips
Look after your windscreen and it will look after you

Act now, and repair any chips on your windscreen. If left, chipped windscreen could result in MOT failure, and a costly replacement - you can allow that happening.
When we repair a chip on a windscreen, it restores the windscreen back to it’s full strength again - when fixed with our resin injection.
Did you know, that’s it’s an offence to drive your vehicle with your windscreen, windscreen wipers and washer bottles not in good working order.
Always top up your windscreen wash bottle. As an empty washer bottle can result in a £1,000 fine and 3 points on your driving licence.
Whether it’s winter or summer, keeping your screen wash topped up can stop your water freezing, and it helps to remove the insects form your windscreen.
Always use proper screen wash only - and never used washing-up liquid. This could damage your windscreen blades and leave a potentially dangerous film on your windscreen.
To keep your windscreen clear, you should always change your wiper blades every 6 months.

Cost & Insurance

In most cases, if you have glass cover, your insurance company will pay for any repairs. Insurers recognise windscreen repairs as a significant saving and on fully comp policies they will pay for the whole cost of the repair, without any excess charge or effect to your no-claims bonus.

If your insurance doesn’t cover you for windscreen replacement, the total cost will depend on the type of glass you need for your car. But don’t worry, we will advise you of any costs before work begins!

We work closely with the motor insurance industry. We’ll look after all the paperwork for you direct with your insurers. If there is anything for you to pay, we will always let you know in advance.
